Technology Professional Services Association Releases Research on the Role of Professional Services in Today’s Turbulent Business Climate

TPSA Experts Help PS Organizations Thrive in a Changing Industry and Uncertain Economy

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 28, 2008 – The Technology Professional Services Association (TPSA) announced the release of three key research documents that deliver both quantitative and qualitative performance analysis of technology professional services organizations. The key findings of the reports give professional services executives an understanding of today’s shifting landscape.

The TPSA Service 50 Q407: Revenue Mix and Profitability addresses the overall shift toward offering more services-intensive portfolios as product margins decline. Although services margins are improving, the PSO is under greater pressure to produce. This report examines how 50 of the most influential technology solution providers in the marketplace are making the shift.

PS in a Downturn: Surviving Management Expectations looks at how an economic slowdown will affect professional services organizations. They likely will be asked to improve efficiency and profits, secure the installed base, grow revenues, and optimize professional services. Not an easy task. This research guides services organizations through the economic and management storms created by a downturn.

Cost of Service Analysis is PS-specific data that will help management understand the key driver of PS profitability--the cost of service/labor margin. This document defines a recommended process for completing a comprehensive cost of services analysis that is designed to answer critical questions about PSO management.

“Our analysis of the largest IT services companies indicates that product margins are declining, and increasing pressure is being placed on services to fill the gap,” said Bo Di Muccio, Ph.D., senior director, research and advisory services, TPSA. “To deal with these expectations, TPS organizations must understand the shift that is occurring and focus on strategies that will help them succeed.”
